This is actually an pdf article called vt-fitness from 2006 but I never knew about it. Very short and brief mention but the focus is on ways to get fit without going to the gym or traditional exercise.
28/06: Cincinnati Enquirer article
Cincinatti Enquirer - I think this is the press release on how to save your back and knees. Picked up by about a dozen papers nationwide.
This day was the brainchild of the then President of the Garden Clubs of America and yours truly. I believe we announced it around 2000. The idea was to promote gardening as exercise, as a fitness program and not a chore or work on this day every year.
I have a sample press release on this Blog and my website.
Get the message out. We still have a long way to go.

The Article below is on how not to hurt your back while gardening. But this is not my article.
http://backandneck.about.com/od/gardeningandbackpain/tp/weedingbackstrain.htm
I am not familiar with the author but she apparently has not read my work on the Lunge and Weed and the Stance as well as my advice on tool motion (pulling versus pushing) and the length of the handles (60 - 72 inches)
While the sitting position is better than stooping, it's not aerobic and sitting on a box and weeding at ground level is awkward at best.
If you really want to avoid hurting your back practice my Lunge and Weed and Stance Positions and be sure to stretch both before and after you garden.

Another article with a reference to GFTG. Unfortunately, the photographs don't illustrate any of the unique motions I recommend -- but that is very common. The fact just futher illustrates that teaching the fundamental concepts of GFTG is an enormous educational process.

This is the article I wrote for as a press release for Hatherleigh. First known newspaper to pick up the article.
